Friends & Family DBT
What Happens Next: Friends & Family DBT
You reached out because someone you love is struggling, and you want to help without losing yourself. That’s exactly what this is for. The person you’re worried about doesn’t need to be in treatment here, or anywhere.
The sequence, start to finish
From the moment your message arrives to the work itself. Steps marked optional are yours to skip.
-
Step 1
We read it, and reply
A real person on our team reads your message and replies within one business day — by email, or by text if you opted in. If you asked a question, you get an answer. If you’re ready to get scheduled, we help you do that.
-
Step 2 Optional
Want to talk it through first?A free fifteen-minute phone call, no commitment. We call you at the time you choose. Useful for working out whether Friends & Family is the right fit, or asking what you didn’t want to type. Email works just as well if you’d rather.
-
Step 3
Paperwork, then your first appointment
Before your first appointment a secure client-portal link arrives by email with the intake forms — do them on your phone in about ten minutes. Most people have a first appointment within one to two weeks.
-
Step 4
Your first session
One-on-one with a DBT clinician who works with families. You describe what’s happening; they start with the skill that would have helped last week.
-
Step 5
Learn the skills, applied to your situation
Individual sessions, in person or online, working through the DBT skills families use most — validation, setting limits without exploding or caving, staying steady in a crisis. Sessions are about your loved one; the goal is a calmer you.
Good to know
- Other therapists
- This is education and skills for you, not therapy for your loved one — it’s fine alongside any therapist you see.
- Insurance
- We accept Colorado Medicaid through Colorado Access and Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP). For other insurance we’re out-of-network and provide superbills for potential reimbursement. HSA and FSA funds accepted. Billing details.
- Crisis
- If you’re ever in crisis, call or text 988, or go to the nearest emergency room. We’re not a crisis service.
Haven’t reached out yet?
Step one is a message. You don’t have to explain anything you’re not ready to.
