Psilocybin Therapy in Colorado for Out-of-State Clients
Colorado is one of only two states where psilocybin-assisted therapy is legally available through licensed facilitators. You don't have to live here. Preparation and integration happen via telehealth — you travel only for the session itself.
Psilocybin Therapy in Colorado Without Residency
Colorado is one of only two states — alongside Oregon — where adults can legally access psilocybin-assisted therapy through state-licensed facilitators at approved healing centers. There is no residency requirement. If you've searched whether psilocybin therapy is legal in your state and come up empty, traveling to Colorado is a real, regulated option — and FRTC's model is built specifically for people doing exactly that.
Here's the key: only the psilocybin session itself has to happen in Colorado. Your preparation and integration work happens by secure video from wherever you live. You make one trip, for one session, and do the rest of the process from home. This page walks through how that works, what to plan for, and the full arc from first consultation to post-session integration.
Why Colorado
Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act (Proposition 122), passed by voters in 2022, created a regulated framework for psilocybin-assisted therapy. Licensed facilitators began providing legal services in 2025, and the state has since approved more than 30 healing centers. A few things set Colorado apart for someone weighing where to travel.
Clinical integration is built in
Unlike Oregon, which separates psilocybin services from mental health care, Colorado lets licensed clinicians fold psilocybin into their practice. At FRTC, your facilitator is a licensed clinical social worker — so prep and integration are real therapeutic work, not procedural check-ins.
A robust regulatory framework
Healing centers are state-licensed and inspected, facilitators are licensed through DORA, and products are tested and regulated. This is a supervised clinical process — not an unregulated experience.
No residency requirement
Adults 21 and older from any state can take part. DORA's own rules explicitly contemplate out-of-state participants — including disclosures about traveling for services.
Easy to reach
Denver International Airport (DEN) is one of the best-connected airports in the country, with direct flights from nearly every major U.S. city. The healing center is about 45 minutes away.

How It Works: The Three-Phase Process
Our model is built around the reality that out-of-state clients can't come to Colorado for weekly appointments. It's designed so you only travel once.
Preparation — Telehealth, From Home
Two preparation sessions by secure video (more if needed): comprehensive safety screening, intention-setting, and building the trust that makes the session day work. No travel required.
Administration — In-Person, in Colorado
The psilocybin session itself at a state-licensed healing center in the Denver metro. Your facilitator is present throughout — up to seven hours. This is the only phase you travel for.
Integration — Telehealth, From Home
Back home, you continue with your facilitator by video to turn insight into lasting change. We can coordinate with a therapist in your home state if you have one.
Integration is where lasting change happens — insights from a session fade within days or weeks without deliberate follow-up. The telehealth format lets that work continue at its natural pace once you're home. Learn more about psychedelic integration.
Planning Your Trip to Colorado
The most common question from out-of-state clients is simply: how long do I need to be there? Here's what to plan for.
Minimum stay: two to three days
Arrive the day before, session on day two, depart day three. Some clients add a day to settle in and decompress from travel first.
Getting here
Denver International Airport (DEN) has direct flights from nearly every major U.S. city. The healing center is about 45 minutes southwest of the airport — rideshare and rental cars are available at DEN.
Where to stay
The Littleton / southwest Denver metro area has hotels at a range of price points, most a short drive from the healing center. We share specific recommendations when you schedule.
Session-day transportation
You cannot drive until the day after your session. A traveling partner can be your driver and support person; solo travelers can use rideshare, with a trusted person reachable by phone.
What to bring: comfortable layered clothing, an eye mask if you have a preferred one (we provide them), a journal if you process by writing, and any grounding comfort items. What not to bring: any psilocybin product — all natural medicine is provided at the healing center and is state-regulated.
What It Costs
One all-inclusive price — preparation, the psilocybin session, integration, product, and facility. The only separate costs are your travel.
Journeying Together
Travel is separate: flights, lodging, meals, and ground transportation vary by where you're coming from and how long you stay. Full payment for services is due prior to the administration session.
Insurance: Natural medicine services are not currently covered by insurance. Superbills are available for preparation and integration sessions for potential out-of-network reimbursement.
HSA/FSA: These funds may be applied toward natural medicine services — consult your plan administrator. For the full breakdown, see our natural medicine services page.
“The whole model is built so you travel once. The screening, the preparation, the integration — that's the bulk of the work, and almost all of it happens with you at home.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a Colorado resident to access psilocybin therapy?
No. Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act does not require residency. Adults 21 and older from any U.S. state can access psilocybin-assisted therapy at a licensed healing center in Colorado. The regulatory framework explicitly contemplates out-of-state participants.
Is psilocybin therapy legal in Colorado?
Yes. Colorado voters passed Proposition 122 in November 2022, establishing a regulated framework for psilocybin-assisted therapy. Licensed facilitators began providing legal services in 2025, and the state has approved over 30 healing centers. All FRTC services are provided by state-licensed facilitators in state-approved healing centers.
Can I do preparation and integration sessions online?
Yes. At FRTC, preparation and integration sessions are available via secure telehealth. Only the administration session (the psilocybin experience itself) must be conducted in person at a licensed healing center in Colorado. This means you complete the bulk of the therapeutic work from home and travel to Colorado only for the session itself.
How long do I need to stay in Colorado?
Most out-of-state clients plan for two to three days. We recommend arriving the day before your session, having the administration session on day two, and departing on day three. Some clients prefer an extra day to settle in before their session.
How much does psilocybin therapy cost in Colorado?
The complete package at FRTC is $2,500, which includes two preparation sessions, the administration session (up to seven hours), one integration session, and all psilocybin product and healing center costs. Additional preparation or integration sessions are $175 each. Duos can journey together in one shared session for $4,500, and small groups of 3–5 are $2,000 per person ($6,000–$10,000 total). Travel expenses (flights, lodging, meals) are separate. Insurance does not currently cover psilocybin-assisted therapy, though superbills are available for potential out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA/FSA funds may apply.
What states have legalized psilocybin therapy?
As of 2026, Colorado and Oregon are the only states with fully operational regulated psilocybin therapy programs. New Mexico has passed legislation but is not yet operational, and several other states have bills in various stages. Colorado's program is notable for integrating psilocybin services with clinical mental health care, making it well-suited for people seeking therapeutic outcomes. For a full breakdown, see our guide to where psilocybin is legal in the U.S.
What's the difference between psilocybin therapy and a psilocybin retreat?
Psilocybin retreats are typically multi-day group experiences that combine lodging, group ceremonies, and the psilocybin experience into a single package. Clinical psilocybin-assisted therapy at FRTC is an individualized treatment process with a licensed clinician: substantive preparation sessions, a one-on-one administration session, and therapeutic integration afterward. The clinical model is generally better suited for people working through specific mental health conditions, while retreats may appeal to those seeking a more communal or experiential setting.
What conditions does psilocybin-assisted therapy help with?
Research suggests psilocybin-assisted therapy may benefit adults experiencing treatment-resistant depression, anxiety (including existential and end-of-life distress), PTSD and trauma, substance use challenges, grief and loss, and those seeking personal growth. It works particularly well alongside ongoing therapeutic work — the combination of psilocybin's capacity to surface emotional material and therapy's capacity to help you process and integrate it is where the most lasting change tends to happen.
Is there anything that would disqualify me?
Psilocybin-assisted therapy is not appropriate for everyone. It is generally not recommended for individuals with a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder, people currently taking lithium, those in an acute mental health crisis, and individuals with certain cardiovascular conditions. SSRIs and SNRIs require careful evaluation — they're not an automatic disqualifier but must be discussed with your facilitator and prescriber. A thorough screening is part of the preparation process.
