Couples Therapy
What Happens Next: Couples Therapy
One of you just did something for both of you. From here it’s a clear sequence, and both partners are in it together from the first appointment.
The sequence, start to finish
From the moment your message arrives to the work itself. Steps marked optional are yours to skip.
-
Step 1
We read it, and reply
A real person on our team reads your message and replies within one business day — by email, or by text if you opted in. If you asked a question, you get an answer. If you’re ready to get scheduled, we help you do that.
-
Step 2 Optional
Want to talk it through first?A free fifteen-minute phone call, no commitment. We call you at the time you choose. Useful for working out whether couples therapy is the right fit, or asking what you didn’t want to type. Email works just as well if you’d rather.
-
Step 3
Paperwork, then your first appointment
Before your first appointment a secure client-portal link arrives by email with the intake forms — do them on your phone in about ten minutes. Most people have a first appointment within one to two weeks.
-
Step 4
An assessment phase, together and apart
Your first few sessions map the pattern you keep landing in — what each of you does, and what it costs. You’ll both be heard before anyone is asked to change anything.
-
Step 5
Weekly sessions, then less often
Weekly for a stretch — often three to six months — learning DBT skills applied to the two of you: how to say the hard thing, how to hear it, how to repair. Then sessions space out as the new pattern holds. In person, or online if you’re both in Colorado.
Good to know
- Both partners
- Both partners take part. Couples therapy is fine alongside an individual therapist either of you already sees.
- Insurance
- We accept Colorado Medicaid through Colorado Access and RMHP, and couples therapy is covered. Many commercial plans don’t cover couples therapy, so most couples with commercial insurance pay out of pocket. Billing details.
- Crisis
- If you’re ever in crisis, call or text 988, or go to the nearest emergency room. We’re not a crisis service.

Step one is a message. You don’t have to explain anything you’re not ready to.
