Internet Gaming Disorder

Internet gaming disorder is not an official diagnosis, but is listed in the DSM-V as a condition warranting further study. It is essentially addiction to online video games, with cognitive distortions similar to other addictions. It is correlated with depressive symptoms, and is used to escape from and cope with unpleasant feelings. Interestedly, between 1998 and 2016 the prevalence did not increase despite the technological advances and increase in availability of video game technology.
